EH&S Performance Evaluations Cycle Begins!

Dear EH&S Staff,

On behalf of Mark Freiberg, please see the message below regarding annual performance evaluations.

It is time again for Annual Performance Evaluations and discussions. Once again this year, we will be using the online system maintained by the School of Medicine. A series of emails (see example attached) will direct each of us individually through the steps in the process.  Please see the overall process timeline below, and make every effort to meet these milestones.  The entire process -- including in-person conversations, and my final signature -- must be complete by March 15, 2018. You can access the online portal here: https://staffevals.ucsf.edu

Partly to help supervisors recall your more significant accomplishments over the past year, each employee is asked to provide a self-assessment.  In this self-assessment, I ask that you provide an honest and balanced assessment of what you see as your strengths (examples help) as well as areas for possible improvement and growth.  Please provide suggestions on appropriate professional development opportunities (e.g., "I'd like to take Advanced Microsoft Excel training") and also programmatic improvement goals for 2019 (e.g., "Last year I accomplished 12 lab inspections per month on average; in 2019 my goal is to accomplish 13 per month on average.") Please note that the self-assessment window will close on January 18.

Your comments and suggestions in your self-evaluation will be taken into careful consideration by your supervisor, who will then discuss with you the goals he/she is formally establishing for you in 2019.

Honest performance feedback is important to all employees; the online system will help us organize these important discussions.
